The
various rural development projects designed
and implemented by Oromia Development Association
(ODA) in partnership with A Glimmer of Hope
Foundation (AGoHF) during the period 2002-2005
were concluded with a success and remarkable
achievements. The projects were generally
aimed at contributing to the efforts being
made toward improving the provision of basic
social services in the areas of education,
health, water supply and agriculture especially
in the rural areas of Oromia Region. As such
the projects were implemented in 56 woredas
of 14 selected zones in the region. Toward
effecting the objectives set in the projects
27 standard elementary schools, 31 health
posts and 4 veterinary clinics were built,
4 deep water wells with 3 water distribution
systems and 600 hand dug wells were constructed
with a total budget of over birr 24.5 million
including birr 1.7 mil. contributed in kind
by the beneficiary community and birr 2.1
mill. granted by Welland family. The projects
have benefited and are still benefiting a
total of over 394 thousand people in 56 woredas
of the region. Beside, as part of the project,
relief aid was provided to 80 thousand people
in areas of the region affected by drought
