ODA, together with its partners, has launched various new projects in the areas of health, family planning, gender and environmental protection with a total budget outlay of birr 24.9 as of May 2009 and on wards. The newly launched projects will be implemented in different
woredas of Oromiya National Regional State for a period of one to three
years and are expected to benefit at least 7.8 million people of which
the predominant portion will be the rural population |
| The projects are generally aimed, among others, at education, awareness creation and empowerment of women and girls so as to mitigate the negative stereotyping and harmful practices against them, improve desirable family planning practices in the community by way of intensive reproductive health education and introduction of various up to the standard contraceptive options available for different family interests, build the capacity of health extension workers to improve provision of basic health services at grass root level, control spread of sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS and enhance access to immunization and vaccination services in the project areas. |
Among the newly launched projects there is also a community based environmental protection project which is basically intended to tackle the prevalently worrying situations in environmental degradation through awareness creation and mobilization of the community toward joining hands in curbing the problem. |
| It is anticipated that these projects, from which at
least one third of the population of Oromiya region will benefit, would
make significant contributions to the overall development efforts being
exerted by the regional government and other development partners.

| Some of the projects newly launched and under implementation are Women and Girls Empowerment Project, RHFP project, ODA-RMNCH project, ODA-ABRI project, ODA-IFHP project, ODA-GAVI project, and ODA-DSW project which are funded by UNFP, CORHA, Engender Health, PIE, FMoH, and DSW respectively. |
