The fact that it is
only a few more than a decade since ODA is established is no
question. Nonetheless, it has accomplished various valuable
projects from which the public have benefited a lot. Among others,
it has managed, in the past 10 – 15 years, construction
of 99 primary Schools, 10 health centers, 40 health posts, 35
health stations, 28 veterinary clinics, 600 hand dug wells,
108 shallow and deep wells, 200 Kms of rural road and 320 projects
with matching funds.
Furthermore it is providing reproductive health (Family Planning)
program in 95 woredas, tutorial services for grade 10 students
in all senior secondary schools of the region, food security
program for a total of 9111 food insecure households in Jarso
woreda of East Hararghe Zone and relief supplies in other areas.
Last but not least
renovation of three teachers’ training institutions and
provision of books and school materials to the various primary
and senior secondary schools is among the accomplishments worth
mentioning.
Approximately over 180 million birr has been utilized for the
accomplishment of these projects from which millions of the
region's population have benefited.
In the 2008/9 fiscal year, there are project plans in the areas
of non formal education, reproductive health (family planning,
food security, social accountability and potable water supply
worth over birr 33 million.
Partnership and Collaboration
ODA raises fund required to finance its various projects from
both internal and external sources. Whereas contribution by
its members stands at the forefront of fund from internal sources,
over 20.1 million birr has been contributed, in the last nine
years.
Though the contribution by members in particular and the support
from the public at large is indispensable, accomplishment of
the projects by ODA is unthinkable without the assistance of
its donors/partners such as Packard Foundation, Glimmer of Hope
Foundation, Pathfinder Ethiopia, Pact Ethiopia, French embassy,
GTZ and others.
ODA, no doubt, has now attained the level of one of the leading
developmental associations through the support it obtains from
the people of Oromia and development assistances it receives
from its partners and donors. It will further strengthen its
network and coordination with its people, donors, partners as
well as stakeholders for the common goal of fighting poverty.
