What is Social Accountability
Socail Accountability can be defined as " an aproach towards accountability that relies on civic engagement i.e in which it is ordinary citizens and /or civic society organizations who participate directly or indirectly in exacting accountability". Socail accountability aims to strengthen the use of socail accountability aproach by citizens and support civil society organizations as a means to make basic service delivery more effective, efficeint, responsive and accountable. The concept of socail accountability underlines both the right and the corresponding responsibility to expect and ensure that government acts in the best interest of the poeple. The obligation of the government officials to be accountable to citizens derives from notion of citizen's rights, often enshrined in constitutions, and the broader set of human rights. Socail accountability initaitives help citizens understand their civic rights and play a proactive and responsive role in exercising those rights.
